On February 1st, Brigid of Kildare joined members of the anti-war alliance StoP (Swords to Ploughshares) to deliver a St. Brigid Cross, a letter and a copy of the Downpatrick Declaration to Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheal Martin at Iveagh House. The Minister had been informed of the presentation in advance but was not available to accept the symbols of peace. The group also observed the Pause for Peace at mid-day and expressed their opposition to the Irish Government’s participation in NATO-linked military alliances and in the weapons Industry.
